January 2010 Nottingham IBC players have claimed the qualifying positions in both the national mixed pairs and national mixed fours competitions. In the mixed pairs, England International Sue Mart and her partner Duncan Robinson defeated team-mates Jackie Turner and John Mildren 25-9 to qualify for the National mixed pairs championships, to be played at Northampton. Sue & Duncan were runners-up in the National Mixed Pairs in 2008 and will be hoping to go one-step further this time. In the mixed fours, 2009 qualifiers Helen Mason, Margaret Lomas, Alistair Hansen and Phil Broughton defeated fellow Nottingham players Lilian Fletcher, Audrey Pinder, Keith Burton and Dave Adams 22-17. Sue Mart & Duncan Robinson will play their first round game on 13th February at 2.00pm. Phil, Alistair, Margaret & Helen will play on 17th February at 2pm against the quartet from North Wilts IBC. Good luck to all 6 players from everyone at Nottingham IBC. Club News, 25th January 2010 NEWSLETTER
You may all have noticed the new advert boards above the scoreboard in our club. We have entered into Sponsorship with Brewin Dolphin who are one of the largest independent private client investment managers in the UK. They have 40 offices across the country, including the Channel Islands, and over £17 billion of assets under management. They provide a comprehensive range of independent investment management and financial planning services to meet the needs of Private Individuals, Charities, Pension Funds, Corporate Entities and Trusts. They have an office in Nottingham and will treat any enquiry with the strictest of confidence. Our Presentation Evening, which this year is at 7pm on Friday, 23 April 2010, will be sponsored by Brewin Dolphin.
The overall cost to our club on this evening is in the region of £1800 and we are most grateful for their sponsorship. I would ask all our members, whether winners or not, to attend this evening to support our club and the many members who have competed in all events over the season. There is a buffet and the first drink at the bar will be free. The following day, Saturday 1 May 2010 we are staging a new and innovative match, which will be short, sharp and very different to anything seen before. This also will be sponsored by Brewin Dolphin.
Over the season there have been a number of “Open Competitions” which have been described as the “Race for Nottingham”. They have taken place at Lincoln, Spalding, Acle, Boston and the City of Ely. The top 48 players from these events have been invited to Nottingham to compete in a new competition called the “Premier Three’s.” Entrance is free and I would encourage any of our members to attend. If you do you will probably see some of the top players in the country who appear on TV. Brewin Dolphin also wish to sponsor our junior section. John Etches and a number of our members are working hard towards re-establishing this section which has seriously declined.
This opportunity of sponsorship is rare and if any member wishes to be involved with our juniors please contact John or me directly.
These events and activities are very important to the short and long-term future of our Club and I would, on behalf of the Council of Management, ask you to support your club for both these enjoyable events where you can enjoy meeting everyone socially. Trevor Cutts, Chairman
Club News, 21st January 2010 On Saturday 16th January, Nottingham IBC will host the Liberty Trophy Quarter-Final between reigning champions Norfolk and Yorkshire. Norfolk will arrive full of confidence after winning the previous two rounds. In their first game they crushed Warwickshire 155-87 and then followed that up with an 11-shot victory over Hertfordshire. Yorkshire have had an equally tough route to the quarter-final. Their first game against a strong Northumberland side resulted in a 2-shot victory (112-110), before a marginally more convincing victory over neighbours Lancashire 139-110. With a wealth of bowling talent on show from both sides, it promises to be an excellent game. Club News, 12th January 2010 |
