| David Cornwell under 25 club double rink competition
2007-08 - Champions! Final: Nottingham 46 - 15 Wey Valley (Saturday 23rd February 2008, Northampton IBC) Phil Bowles, Helen Mason, Daniel Smith, Philip Broughton Matt Kime, Adam Pearce, Matt Chambers, Matt Vickery Reserves: Daniel Shields, Charlie Lomax A message from the team manager... I would like to congratulate you all on what was a great day on Saturday for all of the players involved, the Nottingham Indoor Bowls Club and Nottinghamshire CIBA. What an achievement, the double! To win both club and county double rinks in the same season is fantastic and you should be very proud of yourselves.
To the players; Matt Kime, Chris Nicholson, Matt Chambers, Matt Vickery, Phil Bowles, Michael Kime, Dan Smith, Phil Broughton, the reserves Phil Epton, Arran Bee and Charlie Lomax (Charlie played in one of the earlier rounds) who won the County Double Rink. Matt Kime, Adam Pearce, Matt Chambers, Matt Vickery, Phil Bowles, Helen Mason, Dan Smith, Phil Broughton, the reserves Charlie Lomax and Dan Shields (both who played in the competition in earlier rounds) who won the Club Double Rink. All of the players in both finals were fantastic, however I would like to add a special mention to Helen Mason who was brilliant in the club double rink final. This is Helen's first season at the club and I personally feel that having seen her play this season in competitions she deserves to be considered for the EWIBA Under 25 Team.
To the 'Famous 5' supporters - Andy, Angie, Julie, Archie and Maureen who have never missed an end of bowls this season if I'm not mistaken! To all the other supporters that have been there during the campaign at some stage, most of whom were there on Saturday. Stu Smith for assisting with the club double rink team this year by being our official at all the home games and giving input into the selection when asked. The Nottingham IBC president John Mart who has provided continued support to the team all season and been at the games to cheer us on. Nottingham IBC for your support of the team. To all of the above named, the players, and anyone I've missed out, thank you all very much for your support and efforts this season, it has been really appreciated and been great being involved with you all.
The two teams we played on Saturday, Sussex and Wey Valley. It takes two teams to make a final and our opposition in both finals did themselves proud. Both teams were very gracious in defeat and that shows the true spirit of the game. To the team officials of both sides, it was great to meet you on Saturday and it was clear to see that all your efforts and sportsman like approach has run through your respective teams - a great job done. I would like to thank you all on behalf on Nottingham IBC & Nottinghamshire CIBA for contributing to an enjoyable day for everyone involved.
One last thought I want to share. A year ago we won the club double rink for the first time after being so close on previous occassions. For many years the team manager position was held by Roy Fawcett who over those years had put so much into junior and U25 bowls at Nottingham IBC. Roy sadly passed away shortly after last years victory which was a big loss to his family and all that knew him, he was a valuable part of Nottingham IBC. I am sure Roy was with you all on Saturday to see you not only defend the title you won last season, but win the County Double Rink. I know he would be very proud of you all.
Regards Alistair Hansen (Team Manager)
